I
hope everyone is having a great summer. I
wanted to take this time to update you on
the upcoming events and where we are with
the new soccer complex. As most of you
are aware, we having been trying to
complete the new SWSC soccer complex over
the past two years. We have completed the
excavating, seeding, irrigation, and some
of the fencing. There has been a
tremendous amount of work completed over
the past two years. We had hoped to have
the entire complex completed by now, but
we have run into a few permit and zoning
situations that have taken quite a bit of
time and money. The fields themselves are
completed and could be played on today if
the other part of the complex was
completed. The parking lot is the hold up
on the complex opening. Right now, we are
finalizing the parking lot plans, which
will be located at the left entrance of
the soccer complex. This has been in the
planning for the past year due to the fact
that our soccer complex is located in the
ETJ zone. Parker & Associates has
submitted the plans to the City of
Jacksonville for approval. Once we have
the approval we will finally be able to
complete the parking lot so we can open
our new soccer complex. We had originally
planned on rocking the parking lot but the
City of Jacksonville will not allow rock
parking lots in the ETJ zone areas. The
new plans for the parking lot will require
us to asphalt, curb and cutter, landscape
and a sand filter system for drainage.
Because of these changes to the parking
lot, we will have to take allocation of
monies from other areas of the complex and
focus them on the parking lot. Without
the parking lot being completed we can't
open the soccer complex. We still have to
finalize the cost to complete the parking
lot but should be able to secure enough
funding to complete it once we get the
approval. Our dreams of having a new
soccer complex should be a reality before
the Spring season 2007.
Soccer
registration will be July 29th and August
5th @ Blue Creek Elementary School
Cafeteria from 9am-12pm. CAMSL and ECSA
Fall season will begin September 9th.
Signs are posted throughout the Southwest
area about registration but please make
sure that you pass the information on to
other teammates and SWSC members. We are
currently seeking volunteers that are
willing to work within the organization.
We have positions to fill in the
administration areas, field maintenance,
and concessions coordinator. Anyone
interesting in helping out as a volunteer
please email swscsoccer@swsc-nc.com.
Let's
make this an exciting and fun season for
the kids. I look forward to seeing you at
registration.
Respectfully,
Darin
